'Endhiran' is full of surprises: Shankar open talk

Director Shankar, who has been tight-lipped so far about his action-packed sci-fi Tamil film "Endhiran" starring superstar Rajnikant and Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai, reveals that the movie is almost finished and has lots of surprises in store for the audience.

"'Endhiran' is almost complete. 90 percent of the shooting is over," Shankar wrote on his blog www.directorshankaronline.com.

"I have just finished the action sequences of the film 'Endhiran' in Pune and Lonawala. both the leading artists of the film were present during the shooting," he wrote.

Shankar has also uploaded some of the stills of the film on his blog. This is said to be the first official release of the stills of the movie.

A year ago some pictures taken surreptitiously during the shooting of a song in Peru in South America were released and Shankar had protested, saying it was a pirated work.

Shankar launched the blog Jan 1 in a bid to interact with his fans.

The other sections of the blog that will update fans about the progress on the film have not been activated yet.

"While (his last blockbuster) 'Sivaji' was about black money and corruption, 'Endhiran' is about an andro humanoid robot Prem. The first half of 'Endhiran' is full of surprises. The second half is a roller coaster ride," he wrote.

The director also promises to share information about the making of his magnum opus "Endhiran".

Being made on a budget of Rs.125 crore, the film has hogged the limelight since it was launched. Sun Pictures is producing it.

Shankar, whose "Sivaji" was released on June 15 in 2007, may screen "Endhiran" in April or June this year.

This is the new leaked photo of Aishwarya rai and Rajinikanth from the Endhiran Sets. Endhiran is a forthcoming science-fiction film being directed by S. Shankar, who with Endhiran, directs his tenth feature film. Despite several rumours regarding the lead actors, Rajnikanth and Aishwarya Rai have been formally announced to portray the title role. Rajnikant gains weight for 'Endhiran'

South superstar Rajnikant is reportedly gaining weight to shoot for his mega-budget Endhiran . The director of the film, S. Shankar, has asked the actor to put on some extra kilos.

58-year-old Rajnikant was maintaining a strict diet regimen to stay fit and lean. He cut down on rice for quite some time. But for ‘Endhiran’, the cereal is back in Rajni’s meals. It is believed that in one part of the film, Rajnikant was required to look fat. So the director insisted him to gain 20 kgs. The film’s shoot is going on in Vellore, where the actor is reportedly gorging on Biryani and has already gained 6 kilos.

Such a dedication from an actor at his age is unexpected. ‘Endhiran’ stars Bollywood diva Aishwarya Rai opposite Rajnikant. Rajnikant plays character Vaseegram and Illiyetta (The Robot), whereas Ash essays the role of Sharmili. The movie also stars actor Danny Denzongpa in important role. It has music by A R Rahman .






In fact, a lot of hard work was involved in deciding Rajnikant’s look for the film. He is playing twin characters of a scientist and a robot. For one of his characters, Rajni is made to look much younger.

The film, made on a whopping budget of almost Rs 120 crore, is the most expensive movie to come from the Chennai Film Industry. The movie was named ‘Robot’ initially but was named ‘Endhiran’ after its previous producers backed out from the project. Now the production rights are bought by Sun Pictures.

Directed by S Shankar, who has given films like Nayak and blockbusters ‘Boys’ and Anniyan ,sivaji, ‘Endhiran’ is slated for 2010 release.

RAJINI WILL BE ARASAN BEFORE ENDHIRAN

Superstar Rajinikanth’s next film to hit the screens is Arasan! After eight long years, a Hindi film starring Rajinikanth is being dubbed in Tamil. The film titled Khoon Ka Kaarz is renamed as Arasan in Tamil. The BGM and songs are made in the Qube UFO format and have been remixed in 5.1 DTS Surround Sound.

Rajini appears in three songs and three fights in the film. Arasan also stars Sanjay Dutt, Vinod Khanna, Dimple Kapadia, Sarika and Sangeeta Bijalani.

The film has been cleared by the Censor Board and will hit the screens across India during the third week of March. After watching the preview screening at the Bharani Theater recently, the distributors are said to be competing with each other to acquire the rights.

Shankar and Rajinikanth are going all out to cut costs for Endhiran (The Robot), by shooting in parts of Tamil Nadu, the streets of Chennai and studio settings.

After shooting at a private engineering college in Vellore, the unit moved further south to Kelavakkam near Tirupur. Here, scenes were shot at a private educational institute, with Aishwarya Rai as a college student and Rajinikanth as a scientist. The same institute was used by Shankar for shooting the climax lead for his Sivaji.

Meanwhile, the team will now shift to a Chennai studio for a dream song of the student who gets smitten by the scientist! Art director Sabu Cyril is making a huge set to shoot the song, which is a duet.

To shoot two of his earlier songs , director Shankar had gone to Peru, Los Angeles, parts of the US and the sunny beaches of Goa. Knowing Shankar’s penchant for grandeur, one can expect this song to be shot on a lavish scale.

The movie has music by AR Rahman, and for the first time, rapper Yogi B (who shot to fame through the Polladhavan remix and the Kuruvi song) will be singing for the Superstar. Source: timesofindia.indiatimes.com

The Rajnikanth starrer Endhiran, which has Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as his lead pair, is being produced by Sun Pictures on a whopping budget of Rs. 140 crores. Endhiran's director Shankar, known for his penchant for creating extravagant sets in his films, has erected a huge glass chamber to can just a few scenes of a duet. Sources close to the Endhiran unit

say that it is impossible for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Rajni to stay in the glass chamber for a long time and hence only a very few shots will be picturised in it and not the entire song sequence. The necessity to erect such an extravagant set is to enhance the visual effect, it is said.
